Design of Extended Depth-of-Focus Laser Beams Using Orthogonal Beam Expansions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Laser beams with extended depth of focus have many practical applications, such as scanning printed bar codes. Previous work has concentrated on synthesizing such beams by approximating the nondiffracting Bessel beam solution to the wave equation. In this paper, we introduce an alternate novel synthesis method that is based on maintaining a minimumMTF value (contrast) over the largest possible distance. To achieve this, the coefficients of an orthogonal beam expansion are sequentially optimized to this criterion. One of the main advantages of this method is that it can be easily generalized to noncircularly symmetrical beams by the appropriate choice of the beam expansion basis functions. This approach is found to be very useful for applications that involve scanning of the laser beam.

Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of Bending of Straight Beams Using hp-Spectral Approximations
Displacement finite element models of various beam theories have been developed using traditional finite element interpolations (i.e., Hermite cubic or equi-spaced Lagrange functions). Various finite element models of beams differ from each other in the choice of the interpolation functions used for the transverse deflection w, total rotation φ and/or shear strain γxz, or in the integral form u...

Generation of “Laser Light Sheet” beams and linear laser spots characterized by uniform irradiance distribution is important in various laser techniques like Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF), hardening, annealing, cladding, uniform laser illumination of linear spatial light modulators. This task can be successfully solved with using refractive beam shaping opti...
متن کاملLaser Beam Hazard for flight personnel
Lasers can produce a beam of light of such intensity that permanent damage to human tissue, in particular the retina of the eye, can be caused instantaneously, even at distances of over 10 km. At lower intensities, laser beams can seriously affect visual performance without causing physical damage to the eyes; causing transient damage or causing sensation and loss of focus. Laser illumination o...
متن کاملCrack Detection In Functionally Graded Beams Using Conjugate Gradient Method
In this paper the conjugate gradient (CG) method is employed for identifying the parameters of crack in a functionally graded beam from natural frequency measurement. The crack is modeled as a massless rotational spring with sectional flexibility. By using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory on two separate beams respectively and applying the compatibility requirements of the crack, the characteris...
متن کاملInvestigation of Coherent and Incoherent Laser Beams Propagation Through Turbulent Atmosphere
In this paper propagation of combined laser beam through atmosphere is investigated. Laser beam is combined via lens array arrangement. Turbulence is considered as an affecting factor of atmosphere and its effects on transverse coherence length (Fried parameter), peak intensity, propagation efficiency, and spot size of the laser beam is investigated. Coherent and incoherent combined beam are co...
